Cut price rates for sperm donation

The Daily Mail and MailOnline have given massive coverage to the news that the Department of Health has donated £77,000 to fund a national sperm bank which will be based in Birmingham, aiming to recruit 1000 sperm donors within the next 3 years.

The National Gamete Donation Trust is apparently setting up the with Birmingham Women’s Hospital, with the charity’s chief executive claiming in the Daily Mail, August 4th, that there is no evidence to suggest children are better off with or without a father.  It would be interesting to see the research that backs up that amazing statement!

CORE commented:

‘The deliberate creation of fatherless families by financing sperm donation seems an extraordinary use of public health resources, particularly when the same NHS is also paying for most of the pregnancies aborted every year in the UK.’
